Withdrawal fee

A withdrawal fee is a flat or asset-specific charge an exchange deducts when you move crypto off the platform to an external wallet — separate from any blockchain network fee.

Withdrawal fees are usually a fixed amount of the asset being withdrawn (rather than a percentage of the withdrawal), which means they hit small withdrawals proportionally harder than large ones.

For example, a flat $5 withdrawal fee on a $200 withdrawal is 2.5% of the amount moved, but the same flat $5 fee on a $2,000 withdrawal is only 0.25% — ten times less as a share of the withdrawal.

A common mistake is making many small withdrawals instead of consolidating into fewer, larger ones, paying the same flat fee repeatedly for no real benefit.
