Binance hack Oct 2026: $6.3B incident, withdrawals paused
Binance confirmed a security incident on Oct 30, 2026: about $6.3B impact, deposits and withdrawals paused. What is fixed, the risks, and your options.

Binance confirmed a security incident on October 30, 2026 in an official notice titled "Security Incident Update" (binance.com announcement). Announced 2026-10-30, checked 2026-10-30. Binance says the estimated total impact is around USD 6.3 billion, that about USD 3 billion has been frozen on-chain so far, and that deposits and withdrawals are temporarily suspended while security checks run.
This page tracks what Binance has actually said, what is still open, and what you can do while withdrawals are paused. We update it as Binance posts new notices.

What happened?
According to Binance's notice, its initial investigation suggests a DevOps engineer's laptop was compromised. That gave an attacker access to a service container, and the attacker submitted unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
What Binance stated, in its own words:
| Point | What the notice says |
|---|---|
| Cause (initial) | A compromised DevOps engineer's laptop allowed access to a service container |
| Private keys | "No evidence of any wallet private key leak" |
| Estimated impact | Around $6.3B |
| Frozen so far | About $3 billion frozen on-chain with blockchain partners |
| Who pays | Losses covered from the SAFU fund and company funds; "User funds are safe" |
| Deposits and withdrawals | Temporarily suspended during security checks |
| Next steps promised | Technical post-mortem, updated Proof of Reserves after remediation |
Binance also says it revoked the affected address authorisation and is working with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace funds.
Is it fixed yet?
Not as of 2026-10-30. The notice describes the investigation as ongoing. Three things will tell you it is actually resolved:
- Binance posts a notice that deposits and withdrawals have resumed.
- Binance publishes the technical post-mortem it promised.
- An updated Proof of Reserves appears after remediation. Binance already runs a public proof-of-reserves program†, so you can compare the new snapshot with earlier ones.
Until all three happen, treat the situation as open.
What are the risks for you right now?
Your funds are locked, not lost (per Binance). Binance says it will cover losses from SAFU and company funds. The practical risk is time: you cannot withdraw until the suspension ends, and nobody has published a date.
Phishing spikes after every exchange incident. Expect fake "recovery" emails, fake support chats and fake withdrawal links. Binance asks users to rely only on official channels. Support runs 24/7 through the official app and help center†.
A queue when withdrawals reopen. When an exchange reopens after a pause, many users withdraw at once. Withdrawal fees on the global platform still apply†, so check the network and fee before you send.
KYC scams. KYC is mandatory on Binance†. Anyone offering to "skip verification" to unlock your funds is running a scam.
What to do while withdrawals are paused
- Do not click links in emails, texts or DMs. Open the Binance app or type binance.com yourself.
- Turn on or re-check 2FA and your withdrawal address whitelist.
- Screenshot your balances today so you have a record.
- Watch the official announcement page for the "resumed" notice instead of social media.
- When withdrawals reopen, send a small test amount first on the correct network.
- Decide whether you want to keep everything on one exchange. Spreading funds across two or three platforms limits the damage from any single incident.
Should you move to another exchange?
You cannot move funds out of Binance until withdrawals resume. What you can do now is open a backup account elsewhere, so you are ready to trade or split your holdings once withdrawals are back. Pick a platform that is available in your country and that you have checked yourself:
- OKX review: large global exchange with spot, futures and proof of reserves. Not available to US residents.
- Kraken review: long track record, available in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
- Bybit review: derivatives-focused exchange. Availability depends on your country.
- KuCoin review: wide coin selection. Check country restrictions first.

Common mistakes during an exchange incident
Panic-selling on another exchange before you know your Binance funds are covered. Binance says losses are covered, so a rushed sale can lock in a loss you did not need to take.
Trusting screenshots. Edited "withdrawal reopened" screenshots spread fast. The official announcement page is the only version that matters.
Keeping all of your crypto on one platform after this. That is the real lesson of any exchange incident.
