Same trade at different leverage
Position size and price move stay fixed — leverage only changes the margin you post and how close a losing move gets you to liquidation. It does not create extra profit.
| Leverage | Margin used | Net P&L | ROI on margin | Wiped out by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1x | $10000.00 | $990.00 | 9.90% | a 100.0% move against you |
| 2x | $5000.00 | $990.00 | 19.80% | a 50.0% move against you |
| 5x | $2000.00 | $990.00 | 49.50% | a 20.0% move against you |
| 10x | $1000.00 | $990.00 | 99.00% | a 10.0% move against you |
| 25x | $400.00 | $990.00 | 247.50% | a 4.0% move against you |
How this is calculated
Gross P&L = position size × price move%. Fees are charged on the notional on both the open and close. Net P&L = gross P&L − fees. ROI is net P&L divided by the margin you actually posted (position size ÷ leverage).
Example: a $10,000 long at 10x, entry $50,000, exit $55,000, 0.05% fee per side. Price move is 10%, gross P&L is $1,000, fees are $10 (2 × 0.05% × $10,000), net P&L is $990. Margin posted is $1,000, so ROI is 99%. Losses scale exactly the same way — a 10% move against you at 10x wipes out the entire margin.
