Coinbase Fees in Germany: What You Actually Pay in 2026
Coinbase Gebühren explained for German users: real fee tiers, the MiCA licence behind it, and what's not confirmed about SEPA costs.

Coinbase review
Coinbase charges German users the same global, volume-based maker and taker fees as everyone else. There's no separate "Germany" or "EUR" fee tier††. Coinbase serves EU customers through a Luxembourg entity licensed under MiCA, not a standalone BaFin licence in Germany†. And specific SEPA or EUR transfer fees are not confirmed in CompareCEX's data source, so check Coinbase's own fee page before you move money.
This is on our list of exchanges available to German users (checked against public sources, last checked 2026-09-12); confirm its current status on ESMA's MiCA register or BaFin's site before you deposit.

How much does Coinbase charge in Germany?
Coinbase's trading fees move with your 30-day trading volume, not your country. German traders sit on the same global schedule as everyone else.
| Fee type | Range | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Maker fee | 0% – 0.40% | 30-day trading volume† |
| Taker fee | 0.05% – 0.60% | 30-day trading volume† |
The 0% maker rate† sits at the top of the volume ladder, the level reached only by accounts with a lot of trading history behind them. A new trader in Germany, moving a few hundred euros a month, lands closer to the top end of both ranges: up to 0.40% maker and up to 0.60% taker††. Coinbase doesn't publish the exact euro thresholds for each tier in the source we checked. Treat the figures above as the outer limits, not a promise of what you'll pay.
Does Coinbase have a special EUR/SEPA fee for German users?
Not confirmed in our source. The deposit fee data CompareCEX has for Coinbase lists only US-specific methods: ACH, Fedwire, SWIFT, debit card, and PayPal†. The withdrawal fee data CompareCEX has is limited to crypto withdrawals (internal transfers, USDT, BTC Lightning, and other network-passthrough transfers)†. Neither record contains a SEPA or EUR line item. That's a gap in our data, not proof that SEPA is free or that it carries a fee.
If you need the exact SEPA deposit or withdrawal cost before sending euros, check Coinbase's official fee page for German accounts (coinbase.com/de/fees) directly. Our fee calculator can help you work out trading costs once you know your volume, but it can't fill in a number Coinbase itself hasn't published in a verifiable, structured way for us.
Which MiCA entity actually covers Germany?
Coinbase's EU operations run through Coinbase Luxembourg S.A., authorised by Luxembourg's financial regulator, the CSSF, on 20 June 2025†. That's a MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) authorisation.
Here's the part that trips people up: a MiCA licence from one EU country passports across the whole EU. Coinbase doesn't need a separate BaFin licence to operate in Germany specifically. The Luxembourg authorisation is what covers German customers, not a domestic German permit†. If you want to double-check this yourself, ESMA keeps a public MiCA CASP register, and our guide to MiCA-licensed exchanges walks through how that register works.
A worked example in EUR
Two quick examples show how far the fee range can swing.
- A trader placing a 1,000 EUR market order (a taker order) at the highest end of the range pays 0.60% in fees: 1,000 × 0.006 = 6 EUR†.
- A high-volume trader placing a 1,000 EUR limit order (a maker order) that qualifies for the lowest tier pays 0% in fees: 1,000 × 0 = 0 EUR†.
Neither example includes a SEPA transfer fee, since that figure isn't confirmed in our data. These numbers cover the trading fee only.
This is where the gambler's read and the trader's read of the same fee page split. Someone scanning for good news stops at the headline number, "fees as low as 0%"†, and assumes that's what they'll pay . A trader instead checks their own 30-day volume first, finds which tier they're actually in††, and multiplies that real percentage by their trade size before deciding whether to deposit. The 0% tier exists. Few casual users ever trade enough to reach it.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the 0% maker rate† applies to your account without checking your own 30-day volume.
- Treating SEPA deposits as free because no fee is advertised loudly, when the exact cost isn't confirmed anywhere in verified data.
- Confusing a MiCA passporting licence with a German-specific BaFin approval. They're not the same thing.
- Skipping Coinbase's live fee page and relying on an old screenshot or a forum post instead.
FAQ
Is Coinbase licensed in Germany specifically?
Not through a standalone German licence. Coinbase serves Germany through Coinbase Luxembourg S.A.'s MiCA authorisation from the CSSF, which passports across the EU†.
Does Coinbase charge extra for SEPA deposits?
Not confirmed in our source. CompareCEX's deposit data for Coinbase only covers US payment methods†, and the withdrawal data we have is limited to crypto withdrawals, not fiat/SEPA†. Check Coinbase's German fee page directly for a current SEPA figure.
How do fees compare at low vs high volume?
The spread is wide. Maker fees range from 0% to 0.40% and taker fees from 0.05% to 0.60%, both tied to your 30-day trading volume††. Low-volume traders sit near the top of both ranges; high-volume traders can reach the bottom.
Where should I check the current fee schedule?
Coinbase's own fee page (coinbase.com/de/fees) and our Coinbase exchange profile. For a side-by-side look at how these fees compare globally, see our general Coinbase fees guide, which covers markets outside Germany.
